Interior Designer Launches Rental Properties in Slovenia

Design led homes offer yoga and fly fishing tuition with pine trees, snow-capped mountains and blue skies slovenia is the perfect backdrop to two properties, newly renovated by a UK interior designer and offering one-on-one guidance for an array of activities.

Matthew Norfolk spent years travelling the world before falling for Slovenia and after almost a year of seeking the right property he stumbled across the Carpenters Workshop dating back more than 100 years.

With not an estate agent in sight and still firm friends with the previous owner Matthew took his time to overhaul the structure and interior of this three-storied property, which sits on the edge of the Soca valley the Triglav national park, 13km from Tolmin.

The property is perfectly suited to couples or small families with its one large bedroom featuring a solid oak bed and benefitting from a hand-made balcony overlooking the nearby hills. Ideal for adventure seekers the nearby Soca and Baca rivers offer some of the best white water sports and fly-fishing in Europe.

Wine enthusiasts can enjoy a trip to the historic vineyards of Goriska Brad (its wine is sold to the Japanese Royal family) just 50 minutes from the barn.

Prices start from £395 per week to £695 with nightly rates available (minimum two nights). A two hour drive from Venice you can also access the property via Trieste one hour, Ljubljana, which is two hours away or Kalgfufurt in Austria.

Also just launched is Pri B'zjak in the historic village of Kobarid sitting just 100 yards from Michelin starred restaurant the Kotlar and minutes from Hisa Franko, a restaurant which follows the fashionable 'slow food' movement in Slovenia, and 200 yards from the Soca river. B'zjak house is 280 years old, has three bedrooms all with en-suite and a small court yard garden with scented fresh herbs.

With its lime plaster frontage, linseed based paints, ornate French beds and beamed ceilings Pri B'zjak is full of charm, the house is beautifully finessed and exudes cobbled charm. Prices start from £495 per week to £995. Ideally located, the property is just two hours from Venice with Kobarid offering cafés, boutiques and a traditional village feel with its woollen, cheese and honey offerings.

Having lovingly restored both properties over a number of years Matthew has slowly built a network of local artists, a chef and even a yoga teacher who practices by the riverside and as a result can offer his guests a unique experience.

Fly Fishing, Kayaking, Rafting, skiing, cycling and even photography lessons and a massage can be arranged within the community that Matthew has gathered to help nurture and restore his properties.

Both properties benefit from being two hours away from the capital, Ljubljana, ideal for a day’s jaunt with the perfect mix of pretty architecture, cafe-lined avenues and mouth-watering cuisine.
